F1 22 was created by Codemasters and released by EA Sports. It is Codemasters’ fifteenth instalment in the F1 series. The 2022 Formula One and Formula 2 championships are officially licenced for use in the game. On July 1st, 2022, the game was made available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It would also make its premiere on EA’s Origin platform, which serves as their primary platform and can be accessed through both the Epic Games Store and the EA Desktop app. For PC users, Steam was the only platform offered in prior entries.

The 2022 Formula One World Championship will feature new vehicle types with modernised physics thanks to new technical rules. A revamped track list for the game is also included, including the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the Spanish Grand Prix, the Yas Marina Circuit for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Albert Park Circuit for the Australian Grand Prix, and the new Miami International Autodrome for the Miami Grand Prix. The Shanghai International Circuit and Algarve International Circuit, which hold the Chinese Grand Prix and the Portuguese Grand Prix, respectively, were subsequently included in a game update.

Also featured in the game are Formula One sprints, a recent addition to the sport. In order to keep players competitive from race to race, F1 22 has adaptive AI, which modifies the pace of AI vehicles based on player performance. The game also offers F1 Life, a customisable centre area that lets players gather supercars, outfits, and other items. Additionally, it is verified that the game will work on PCs with virtual reality headsets like the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive. In addition, F1 22 offers interactive pit stops and immersive broadcast choices modelled after televised Formula One broadcasts.
